Event extension until end of October!

As requested by a number of participants It has been decided to extent the event period by one month – effectively the Odyssey of Speed will last by this until 31st of October!

This shall give everybody more opportuniites to score good sessions and compensate for the time lost during the lockdown in spring time.

I hope the October will be windy and offer good conditions!

Germans catching up!

Every day wind and speed sailing with some friends. After the dutch week in July we saw now three German speed sailors pushing each other every day!

With Christian Bornemann, Björn Haacke und myself (Tim Otte) a good competition was done. Various conditions ranging from 20 to 45 knots allowed us to sail and score good results in all categories.

Nevertheless the first two places of the overall scoreboard, still maintained by Twan and Eric, remain untouchable so far. With good overall performance Christian (6th place) and myself (3rd) are catching up. Björn was also pushing hard on rental equipment and we are still waiting for his GPS tracks. Minos and Konstantinos and 4th and 5th place still in good position too.

Total number of sessions uploaded 422, distance sailed 14500 km.

The overall score board:

  1. Twan Verseput 6,1 points
  2. Eric Groot van Ederen 14,4 points
  3. Tim Otte 22 points
  4. Minos Efstathiadis 31 points
  5. Konstantinos Papandrikopoulos 35 points
  6. Christian Bornemann 38 points

Meltemi Season continues with strong winds

The persistent winds in the aegean, the famous Meltemi, is continuously blowing every day and delivering perfect conditions almost every day. So on all islands, especially on Karpathos, good results have been scored.

Also on the mainland a lot of sessions have been posted, leading to a very compressed score board, behind the two top guys, Twan and Eric, which remain ‘untouchable’.

So no change at the first two places, but behind the battle is on for the third place and a place among the Top 10. Twan and Eric in the leading two positions, Konstantinos and Minos both in third place. Tim catching up in 5th positions.

Total number of sessions uploaded 372, distance sailed 12700 km.

The overall score board:

  1. Twan Verseput 6,1 points
  2. Eric Groot van Ederen 12,4 points
  3. Konstantinos Papandrikopoulos 33 points
  4. Minos Efstathiadis 33 points
  5. Tim Otte 35 points

4th intermediate Ranking 2020

Historic Speeds and solid Lead by Twan and Eric!

The dutch battle between Johan, Eric and Twan ended up with outstanding results in all disciplines. Having excellent conditions every day, they were pushing each other to some results never seen before in the ten year’s history of our event.

So the 5×10 sec average of Eric and the 500m, the 1 Hour and the Alpha@500 of Twan are all ‘all-time-best’ scores at the Odyssey of Speed!! In addition Eric also scored the highest speed so far this year with 81,96 km/h (2 sec.).

With this results Twan is now leading in three out of our five categories and Eric in the other two. Logically this gives them both also the lead in the overall ranking. Konstantinos Papandrikopoulos, as the best greek sailor, follows in the third place.

The overall score board:

  1. Twan Verseput 6,1 points
  2. Eric Groot van Ederen 9,4 points
  3. Konstantinos Papandrikopoulos 24 points
  4. Minos Efstathiadis 20 points
  5. Ilias Tsekours 34 points
