6th intermediate Ranking per 15.08.2019

Eric Groot van Ederen dominates the Odyssey of Speed this year – so far! Thanks to the excellent conditions during his stay on Karpathos, his physical strength (‘Mister 7.0’) and persistence he finally conquered the lead position.

Eric recently focussed on a good result for the 1hour average (43,76 km/h) and is now leading in three out of five categories. (2sec max.; 5x10sec avg and 1 Hour avg.)

Tim Otte, the organizer of the event, also took benefit from the great conditions in Devils Bay and managed to enter the Top Three.

Up to now we have 42 participants listed, who uploaded more than 400 sessions!

The event is definitely now in its decisive phase, with big wind forecasted for the weekend. Results are coming in every day and ranking will be updated now more regularly. Stay tuned!

The overall score board:

  1. Eric Groot van Ederen 8,1
  2. Alexandros Petikidis  17,7
  3. Tim Otte 24

The speed surfers arrived in Karpathos and with Anders Björkqvist from Sweden, Eric Groot van Ederen and Johan Huitema from the Netherlands and Christian Bornemann from Germany some top guys are participating in the Odyssey of Speed.

In particular Eric and Christian were pushing hard and scored some nice top results. Eric smashing out a 2 sec max. of 80,79 km/h and a 5x10sec. average of 74,13km/h and Christian to catch up with the top score on the 500m with 65,96 km/h (no ex equo with Alex Petikidis)

This year we see an incredibly high performance level in all categories. Also the greek speed elite is still in the game and Alex Petikidis, Philip Adamidis and Minos Efstathiadis had nice sessions, too.

The event is now in its decisive phase. Results are coming in every day and ranking will be updated now more regularly. Stay tuned!

GPS Rule Amendment

We would like to kindly remind all participants that according to the NoR only the following GPS devices are approved:

* GT-31/BGT-31
* GX-52
* GW-60
* Motion GPS
* Android Logit App

The reason for this is, that these are the only GPS devices which provides the required accuracy due to the ‘Doppler-Speed‘-feature.

We noticed that this year even more speeders are using non-doppler GPS, such as Garmin Fenix. We acknowledge that this also caused by the fact that the Locosys devices are either out of stock or encounter reliability issues. Therefore it has been decided, like last year, not to exclude the non-doppler device sessions from the ranking, but apply to all of those a penalty of 1 knot in speed (1,852km/h). I think this a fair solution and I hope for your understanding.

By the way with the Motion GPS (www.onandon.be) an excellent new device is on the market – featuring Doppler-Speed correction! Highly recommended!

Meet the Champion!

it was a real pleasure to meet our last year’s champion Konstantinos Papandrikopoulos on the beach of his home spot Drepano. We found a very friendly and ambitious young sportsman.

We took also the chance to hand over to him our new trophy for his well deserved victory in 2018.

Konstantinos is currently ranked on fourth place and still is in race for defending his title. Keep pushing, Konstantinos!

The new Trophy

After Minos Efstathiadis has won the Odyssey of Speed three times our old trophy remains with him. Well deserved!

The new trophy has been designed and built in cooperation by Christian Stemmer and Marcus Lappe. A combination from wood (oak and ash-tree) and acrylic glass gives it a very special appearance. Really impressive and awesome!

Eric setting the top scores!

As every year Eric Groot van Ederen from the Netherlands is participating in the Odyssey fo Speed. Last year he managed to become 2nd Overall and obviously this year he is going for more. Just two days on Karpathos he is screwing up the score board by smashing three top scores (max. avg, 2sec max and 500m) As usual with 7.0 sail … in 40 knots … Max Speed 42.5 Knots!

check out his post on GP3S:

Also the other dutch speed surfer Johan Huitema is doing great and following in the second place.

The event is entering it’s hottest phase. Stay tuned!
